Super Junior’s charming and charismatic Kim Heechul was officially discharged from his one month of mandatory basic military training as of late. Beginning on the first of September, his training period lasted a total of four weeks. Prior to his departure from the training center, Heechul sat down to answer a few questions about his experiences and memories, composing an interview that would later be posted on the Korea Army Training Center (KATC) blog.
In the interview, Heechul indicated that joining the army may have been worrisome at first, but his worries were made less prominent as the days went on. He states, “Honestly, it was tough to leave everything behind and join the army. However, I don’t think that anymore. Time isn’t something that just flies by, time is something to be filled up.”
He has been keeping up with fans’ sentiments as well. Many have worried about their favorite idol possibly growing thinner, to which he responded, “I actually gained 3 kg from having a more regular schedule and life pattern!”
Heechul wrapped up the interview by conveying his gratitude towards those who have lent him support along the way, declaring, “I plan to develop myself to be better, and I want to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who gave me so much love.” Although he did undergo various bouts of trying times, Heechul responded positively to his overall experience while expressing how much he enjoyed training with his fellow recruits.
In the video below, Heechul speaks of how army training rendered him able to experience such simple blessings as trekking under a sparkling night sky and reading heartfelt letters from supporters. He talks about various hardships as well, such as a change in the language style and having to endure the use of crutches on account of his stressed leg.
He goes on to tell various stories with a smile, remembering that when he aimed for a paper during shooting practice, he instead shot one of the rubber bands holding the paper up. To this uncommon occurrence, his training leader exclaimed, “This is something only Super Junior can do!”
